MINERALS
AND OUR HEALTH

In this article I will explain:
Why minerals are essential to our health and our very life.
Why we don't get enough minerals in our diets.
Why we need to supplement our diets with major and trace minerals.
What are the best mineral supplements and how to get them.

The Importance of Minerals In Our Diet
Is Often Overlooked

Life-sustaining minerals are necessary for 95% of the body's daily functions. Although the body can function, however poorly, without vitamins, it will die without essential minerals. We naturally produce vitamins from our inherent mineral supply, so when that supply is depleted, the body suffers. Soil depletion, poor crop rotation, and loss of valuable topsoil due to flooding and over-irrigation has eliminated much of the natural trace mineral content from our modern food supply. In fact, many of the fruits and vegetables we consume today contain only 8 to 12 minerals. (organically-grown produce may contain up to 20.)

Dr. Linus Pauling winner of two Nobel Prizes, claimed, "You can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment to a mineral deficiency."

What Do The Studies Show?

This excerpt from United States Senate Document Number 264 (74th Congress, 2nd Session, 1936) explains the importance of mineral supplementation. "The importance of minerals in food is so new that the text books on nutritional dietetics contain very little about it. Nevertheless, it is something that concerns all of us, and the further we delve into it the more startling it becomes.

We know that vitamins are complex chemical substances which are indispensable to nutrition, and that each of them is of importance for the normal function of some special structure in the body.

It is not commonly realized that vitamins control the body's appropriation of minerals, and in the absence of minerals they have no function to perform.
99% of the American people are deficient in minerals, and a marked deficiency in any one of the more important minerals actually results in disease. Any upset of the balance, any considerable lack of one or another element, however microscopic the body requirement might be, and we sicken, suffer, and shorten our lives.

Our physical well-being is more directly dependent upon the minerals we take into our systems than upon calories or vitamins, or upon the precise proportions of starch, protein or carbohydrates we consume. This discovery is one of the latest and most important contributions of science to the problem of human health.

Most of us today are suffering from certain dangerous diet deficiencies which cannot be remedied until the depleted soils from which our foods come are brought into proper mineral balance. The alarming fact is that the
foods - fruits, vegetables and grain, now being raised on millions of acres of land that no longer contains enough of certain needed minerals, are starving us - no matter how much of them we eat!"

"99% of the American people are deficient in minerals..." That was reported in 1936. Can you imagine what is going on now? Has it gotten any better? I don't think so. In fact, the situation has gotten worse.

In June of 1992, the Earth Summit Report - which documented the decline in numbers of various rare and endangered species, the enlarging holes in the ozone layer, and the disappearance of the tropical rain forests - also reported on the decline of nutritional minerals in farm and range soils by continent over the last hundred years.

As recently as 1993, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the United States soil was 95% depleted of essential minerals. The 'Breadbasket of the World' was rated near the top of the list as one of the worst soils in the world.

Minerals Are Essential To Our Health

In addition to making up our bones and other body tissues and fluids, minerals, particularly the trace elements, serve as cofactors to the enzymes which catalyze all of the biochemical reactions that are necessary for our bodies to function properly. These biochemical reactions are numerous, highly interdependent, and require a delicate balance that must be maintained for optimal health. In the absence of a specific mineral, our bodies compensate for a limited time by following alternate biochemical pathways that operate much less efficiently, often leading to poor health and eventually a shortened life span.

Since our body cannot produce its own minerals, as it can many of the vitamins, minerals must be constantly supplied to it by eating foods, primarily fruits and vegetables. The problem, however, is that the food we eat, even if it includes a lot of fruits and vegetables, is significantly lacking in good mineral content because the soil from which it grows has become mineral-depleted.

All nutrients such as vitamins, proteins, enzymes, amino acids, carbohydrates, and fatty acids require minerals before they can be properly utilized by the body. Although vitamins have received much more attention than minerals, many people are surprised to learn that most vitamins can be manufactured within our body, while minerals can only be obtained from outside the body, primarily from plant-based foods. Unfortunately, the plants which we eat are significantly short of minerals since they are grown in mineral poor soil. The need for additional mineral supplementation is readily evident.

What is the best way to supplement with Minerals?

Health care professionals have long recognized the problems in mineral assimilation and absorption, especially when supplementing with the most common elemental/metallic forms. These are the minerals that are in many of the over-the-counter formulations sold in most pharmacies and health food stores. The average absorption rate in adults is approximately 10 percent, and even less if digestive problems are present. The remaining 90% of the elemental minerals are eliminated, making mineral replenishment essential.

The livestock industry came up with a better form of minerals that were more absorbable - chelated minerals. Inorganic minerals were complexed with amino acids or certain sugars to enhance their bio-availability. That increased the absorption and assimilation rate up to as high as 40%. The idea of chelation is to try to fool the cells into thinking the mineral is something else in order to get the mineral into the cells. Chelated minerals can be recognized by amino acid suffixes such as chromium picolinate, selenium aspartate and calcium citrate.

THE BEST WAY - Humans were created to derive minerals best from PLANT sources. Plant derived colloidal minerals are found to be 98% biologically available to the human body. Microorganisms in the soil convert inorganic elemental minerals into a form usable by plants. Plants absorb these minerals through their root systems and by a process of photo-synthesis turn them into a carbon based organic molecule. A plant derived mineral molecule is an ultra fine particle that is typically 0.0001 of a micron in diameter. They are about 1/600th the size of a red blood cell. Mineral complexes found in plants help the body to maintain a perfect bio-electrical balance essential for good health and longevity. These microscopic complexes are easily utilized by the body. The transport and availability of other nutrients from foods, vitamins and other supplements are also greatly enhanced.

Life-sustaining minerals are necessary for 95% of the body's daily functions. Though the best way to get these minerals is through plants, due to mineral depletion in our soil, we must get much of our minerals by supplementation. In the mineral supplements that I recommend, through the process of chelation, ionic minerals are organically complexed with citric acid. This allows them to be fully dissolved, giving them the ability to be absorbed through the walls of the intestines and colon at a much greater rate than minerals in a tablet form. An ion is the smallest component a mineral can exist within, and is the size the body requires to allow the individual cells to absorb it. The body can absorb ionic minerals approximately 10 to 12 times better than elemental minerals.

A good essential mineral formula is in an organo/ionic form and comes in a liquid. These essential minerals contain a combination of almost 70 major and trace minerals, making it the most complete mineral supplement on the market. Some of the benefits of a mineral-rich diet include higher energy levels and better assimilation and utilization of the foods and supplements we consume. Now, don't make the same mistake some people have made that I have educated about this subject. Don't try to get all these minerals in a pill form. You cannot. The pill form minerals are either metallic/inorganic or chelated. Also, don't go out to the health food store and buy just any liquid mineral complex. You will not get the quality minerals that I am talking about. All liquid minerals are not processed with the same standards and do not all come from the same source. I have researched many different brands and have searched for only the best. That is why I am recommending the formula you can obtain from this site.

Thousands of years ago when the Earth was pollution-free, the mineral-rich plant deposits used in our essential mineral formula were formed. The minerals are derived from plant vegetation or humic deposits, not rocks or an elemental source. A combination of five mines located on the Utah/Nevada border, in New Mexico, and in North Dakota, provide the best and richest sources of these humic deposits. By blending the five plant deposits, higher levels of major minerals can be extracted than one could receive from a single source.

After 15 years of extensive research and countless thousands of dollars, a proprietary extraction method has been developed utilizing citric acid. To maintain the body's pH balance, this 7-day mineral extraction process is conducted without the use of a high-acid solution.

These deposits have been proven by two of the leading US laboratories to contain almost 70 of the most potent essential minerals known to man. Now the life-sustaining benefits of essential minerals are available to you and your family in a delicious lemon-lime flavor and a calorie free raspberry flavor! Remember, man did not formulate the different amounts of each mineral in the formula. The combination of minerals and their different amounts in the formula were formulated by nature. No changes, additions or subtractions have been made to these essential minerals formulated by nature.

I recommend taking essential minerals daily.
